Flightgear virus

Postby KL-666 » Mon Oct 17, 2016 11:29 pm

For some reason in 2016.3.1 flightgear wants to load a lot of thing from a place called: fgfs.goneabitbursar.com.

I never asked it to contact that place. And no setting for that place can be found anywhere, not even within the executables. So no chance to forbid fg to contact that place.

It also wants to load terrasync from there. Which is bad, because half the world is missing there. It should load terrasync from what is mentioned in http://scenery.flightgear.org/svn-server. In my case that is http://ns334561.ip-5-196-65.eu:8888/trunk/data/Scenery/. There scenery is complete.

Yet another case of beginners unable to do the programming of simple settings (we have already had metar fucked up in a beginners manner). Causing under the hood contacting of virus sites like goneabitbursar, and breaking terrasync down.

Great job, o thou almighty ones, designated to be almighty by the sole virtue of programming in one among many languages called C.

Kind regards, Vincent

Errrm... yeah. That website is a legit terrasync server. Also, the setting is in the property browser under /sim/terrasync or some such.

It isn't a virus. Chill.

Also whomever is the custodian of that server is a big Terry Pratchett fan, Terry is the writer of the many DiscWorld adult fantasy books, and the reference is from the quote 'gone a bit Bursar' which is an in-joke from the Unseen University in Ankh Morpork, referring to the UU's Bursar, who despite being a magical genius is also not in touch with the Discworld 'reality'.
