That's the bird involved.

FligtRadar24 said it 'landed' at 3:42 PM. Idiots.

If anyone could find a track log of altitude airspeed etc in it's final moments, it would be much appreciated. Or a map...

At the moment, I'd say either a stall, fuel starvation, engine failure, or something. Low visibility -- perhaps a blocked pitot tube may have caused them to fly into the ground. You can see a go around at the very end.

I hate this sort od thing happening.

Wow I'm going to feel so confident getting on my flight in a few hours....
This is really sad...just 50 meters from the runway.... RIP
Based on the CCTV footage, it looks like it was in a very steep descent, and wikipedia says 80 km/h winds were reported.

The investigation will be...interesting. Will the Americans and the Russians work together?

:(

And these kinds of things shouldn't be happening already.

This looks eerily like a classic case of burning up all the fuel to the alternate in the hope the weather will improve in time. Some times it does not, forcing you to land in abysmal weather conditions. The metar at the time shows stormy weather with rain and strong gusts.

How much fuel do you take for an alternate? Probably some 1-2 hours. Look at the graph above now, and see that after 2 hours they were forced to land.

Here is a recent similar case of flying on fumes, that luckily did not end in disaster:

Yeah, it looks like it ran out of fuel. I don't think this is an uncommon practice though. Once I was flying to KDFW, and there was a tornado at the airport when we were twenty minutes out. They closed the airport, and ATC had us circling around the airport for an hour until we were forced to divert to KGGG because of low fuel (we ended up refueling and going back to KPHL).

It looks like the AoA before impact was -75 degrees, according to my calculations.
