Same happens with the IRU switchs in Boeings. In Airbus, just like boeing, you push the INITIALIZE IRS button in the FMS, which does the same as putting the coords from teh GPS into teh FMS in teh Boeings.
Re: A jolly day at the office
I mean, okay, system design and everything ... but then, a cockpit crew entering a place 11,000km from where they are, that is also a thing worth to think about. I mean, it was not in the air, it was on the ground. Looking out of the cockpit window, they could probably see big signs like "Welcome to Sydney".
So, Airbus is one thing, but Air Asiana is also a dubious thing, I guess.

Re: A jolly day at the office
The easiest way to crosscheck would be to make sure the aircraft symbol on the ND matches with the F-Plan you entered.
That is one of the items in the checklist.
If it was 11000km away it wouldnt have been even close to the F-Path.

Hi SHM,
This aircraft symbol story shifts a large part of the responsibility to the pilots. They could have quite easily found out something was wrong. It is their job after all to check such things.
Never realized the symbol myself, because i use the ND only as a compass myself.
Kind regards, Vincent

@Vincent
your old good magnetic friend is reliable as compass. This ND... I wont trust it for that matter.

It is not that i hate glass. In fact i think the layout of the PFD is very smartly done. Everything you need on one horizontal line. Instrument scan is probably faster than on steam gauges.
But what i hate is following magenta lines. It beats every self initiative out of a man. Myself i navigate on VOR/NDB.
Kind regards, Vincent
