I loaded up the LSGG scenery and did some testing (the OSM buildings were on because I don't know how to turn them off ;)).

For reference, I don't have a high end processor or a lot of memory, but I do have a decent graphics card: AMD Phenom Quad Core @ 2GHz, 4GB memory NVidia GeForce GTX 770.

Flying around a cloudy LSGG in an Antonov AN2, I get around 28-32fps. Over the city with the airport behind, it's slightly higher. There was some slight lag looking at the Jet d'Eau, but hardly anything really.

For comparison, in the same aircraft:

EDDF: 25-30fps, with some lag from surrounding scenery objects in Frankfurt
EGKK: 28-30fps, with a couple of really bad lags and a drop to 14fps
KJFK: 32-35fps
EHAM: 24-28fps
HSSS: 58fps, an undeveloped airport for comparison.

These aren't wholly accurate comparisons, because clouds have an impact but LSGG is coming up in the same ball park as other developed airports for me.

Great job guys 8-)

The weird thing about Geneve is what makes the framerate so low to begin with (7 fps without buildings). I normally get at least twice as much. In Riga, the custom layout which is similar, I get 12-20. Maybe it's the mountains?

The more mountains and lakes and whatever is there on "structures", the more, the computer has to do with rendering the landscape. So that makes sense. You can test what happens with your fps if you fly from Cairo westward into the desert and then back to the Nile. Or do the extreme and try Munich. If you look North, you have much better fps as if you look south.

@Sanhozay

Thanks for testing "D

A few things.
I preffer the following comparison,

* same weather conditions
* same aircraft

  1. LSGG undeveloped with no buildings --this one is hard to get nowadays, but it is an important basal comparison :S [See below]
  2. LSGG developed, no OSM2City
  3. LSGG developed, OSM2City

Now, I know I did not explain everyone what's my trick to turn off OSM2City, because FG does not have that switch ;S
So, what I do is have two versions of the same scenery.

OSM2city

You get the full package only on the repository at
https://github.com/FGMEMBERS-SCENERY/LSGG-fg-CustomScenery

Code: Select all

git clone git@github.com:FGMEMBERS-SCENERY/LSGG-fg-CustomScenery.git

No OSM2city

You get the fat-free package on terrasync, but also on the no-osm2city branch of the repository. this allows you to easily switch like this:

Code: Select all

git checkout no-osm2city

The scenery directory changes. OSM2City bldgs go off. Feel free to debug->reload scenery in game

Code: Select all

git checkout master

The scenery comes back full fledged. Feel free to debug->reload scenery in game.

No added scenery -- prebuilding Geneve, base for performance drop comparison

You can't get this with just terrasync anymore. You can use the repository and roll back history to the commit 67dc80cd581b5e86082bf43c6e403d1fcee8b34b, "Add terrasync current content".

Code: Select all

git checkout -b no-scenery 67dc80c

and then debug->reload scenery in game

I hope it helps.

Was yesterday at Geneva. Looks great. Did not notice any fps problems. Was on max 30 fps, where i set it with half vsync. So must be good.

Kind regards, Vincent

In one word AWESOME.
Just tried it out and it looks fantastic and was surprised that it wasn't lagging even after all the objects and buildings in there. Well done Israel with the optimizations. Brilliant work mate.

I think my problem with the Cointrin scenery is that the WWI materials patch is adding to the shader's bandwidth.

setting the LFGG materials back severely has gained me a lot of frame rates over the whole Eastern French and Rhine areas, LSGG isn't crashing, and the loading times are a bit less.

It's interesting that this same patch actually reduces the amount of used .png's in the WWI terrain scenery, you'ld think it would be the other way around, nor am I sure why this is. :?:

@Lesbof

Wow. Good catch.
Certainly knowing it was a problem only you were having help guiding a solution here. Clearly I don't know either why the WWI textures are shooting us in the foot here
