Creating racetracks using WED or something similar?
Re: Creating racetracks using WED or something similar?
So this is possible?

Prepar3d (2015 - 2023)
MSFS2020 (2020 - )

IAHM-COL wrote:we can push the slope at which the WED work follows the SRTM data terrain. But lesbof is right, smoothing is applied to aprons/taxiways/runways to some degree.
To gain leverage, we can actually just increase the slope allowance, but this is not going to follow terrain with perfect accuracy no matter what.
So, that point Lesbof raised is indeed a caveat of this approach
You know if the slope and bank could be averaged even a little it wouldn't be that big a problem. I fight a major problem of my track's model vertex breaks not working well with the terrain triangle breaks. If something could be done with the WED created tack's gradients, most race tracks have to be somewhat smooth and flowing. I mean the straight-way has bikes careening downhill on it at over 150 mph into a lightly banked and rough on the inside corner. The whole ocean-side part of the track is a rollercoaster affair in real life. That's what makes it challenging to ride

That's what I am fearing ... No
We can specify that z-axis bank angle on WED. WED only contains 2D data.
We can allow terragear to follow much more closely the terrain, instead of dramatically flattening the surface of the track (making it totally flat), but those bank angles in the curves do not exist on the SRTM data either. The SRTM data resolution is way more gross.

If we gave everybody in the World free software today, but we failed to teach them about the four freedoms, five years from now, would they still have it?

Then great!
Cause that's as far as we'd get on WED. More smooth terrain following by the track. the major bank angle will then need to become 3d artistry.

As a matter of fact we've got a new 3D modeler who showed up in the other forum..
https://forum.flightgear.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=30403
He's been working with SpeedDreams 2.0, and his models are GPL, unfortunately they also are a weird PLIB 3D rendering adaption of the AC3D file called an .acc. I'm not sure how importable they are.
I have a copy of SpeedDreams 2.0 and it's pretty cool. Helijah imported his 2CV Deuche into it. I made a video of driving it on the Alpen track..

Try generating that one after you add the boundary.
I will add the pitlane later.
