sucking the life out

Since IAHM-COL, SHM, and I are kind of cut off from the "official" world by royal decree of King Curt and his chancelor Grima-Snake-Tongue ...[ oh wait, wrong story ] ... we are sometimes a little confused and have to ask those who have still access about what is going on.

sucking the life out

Postby bomber » Sat Oct 05, 2019 3:03 pm

I got banned from the official forum... it's no secret.

What occurred with me was that over a period of many years I became more and more frustrated with the negative attitude on the forum towards new ideas. Towards the discussion of the possibility of doing something different, alternative, maybe worse, maybe better than existing. And that frustration eventually boiled over into me making a comment toward the chief protagonist Thorsten that got me banned. I stand by what I said that he sucks the enjoyment of my hobby and I think others.

I wanted to debate the merits of different techniques of flight modeling, to generate interest in this part of the hobby that I specialise in. To challenge my ideas and others in turn and hopefully create better and better flight models as a result. This never happened as any conversation soon turned very negative, very condescending and very adversarial, which was exactly the opposite of my intentions in starting a topic.

A year plus since my ban and nothings changed on the official forum, people are still commenting about aspects of the sim and it's development and still being met with a very adversarial response which prevents any positive outcome from the topic, it's very sad.

What a cracking example of how to turn a conversation on its head. This topic is about the possibility of creating better terrain but before long it's been spun into a jsbsim Vs yasim flight model flamfest by people who quite frankly when it comes to flight modelling are next to clueless.

This is a continual problem with FG. Someone posts about a feature they'd like to see, Thorsten replies by saying he's not interested in doing it, the original posters tries to continue on the conversation hoping to attract like minded folk. Thorsten continues to post undermining any effects to open the conversation up to others. Then the idiots on the forum failing to see how Thorsten has manipulated the direction of the conversation away from the original posters intent join in posting about flight modelling they have no idea about.

That reminds me of the idea these guys have years ago of restructuring FG terrain. Was it for real? Is it something coming along? or was it just as I guessed, a smoke-column to kill terraGIT idea when it was a danger-seed?
A better terrain system was (and is) some welcomed innovation.

You always did read what you wanted to read. It's somewhat sad, really.

That'll be why soon after I posted the quoted text, posts got deleted and the topic got split...

true... it's sad

Just out of curiosity, but where and what have we conversed about before, I'm having trouble placing you.

Oh it was nothing major, not a massive case of censorship. I suspect more a case of continuity in the splitting out of the topic. But it did happen and not something I made up that I wanted to read.

Bomber has a good point. FG certainly has sucked the will to develop out of me more times than I can count... P3D on the other hand...

Kind Regards,
Josh

This is the original topic from which the FDM discussion was spit from.

https://forum.flightgear.org/viewtopic. ... &start=150

Now it's never easy to validate a statement that 'posts have been deleted' but If I remember correctly wasn't there more bugman input ? Something about the original chap that was working on it, but it wasn't ready, a bit buggy or GIT rep left in an untidy manner ?..... A comment from Thorsten saying this chap doesn't post on the forum, due to the people and attitudes. - which I thought was a massive 'own goal'....
