Once upon a time a long long time ago.

Postby F_36 » Sat Jan 25, 2025 7:39 pm

Here I am. 22 years old. In Oklahoma City living in a Hotel as the Federal Aviation Adminstration trains me to become an Air Traffic Controller. Yesterday we learned about VOR navigation, you know, old school stuff. Reminds me of a time when I was just a squeaky 12 year old in 7th grade, being taught how to fly VOR to VOR across in the world in little Yak-18's with cain. Which got me thinking, how did I end up here? 10 years later, hundreds of miles away from home, learning to become a controller. Then came all the flooding memories of days where I couldn't wait to get home from school to partcipate in the world tour legs hosted by IAHM-COL himself. Who made the airline JAFVA which I made my life mission at the time to be at the top of the roster with the most hours. Then we had skyboat, who had his real life PhD. Who helped me as a 12 year old complete a health presentation for my science class the night before, and I remember being able to list someone with a real PhD as such a cool thing to share in class. Then we also had jabberwockey, who tried over and over again to teach me how to intercept the ILS into Salt Lake City in a giant 747 (I couldn't think of a better plane to learn ILS approaches in). I listed just a few, but I know there are so many others I interacted with over that mumble server over 10 years ago from now. You probably remember me as the kid who might've been somewhat annoying lol. But I wouldn't be in the place I am today and with the passion I have at this moment if it wasn't for all of your guys guidance in my younger days.

So, with that said. Hello? is anyone reading? Whats the story with everyone 10 years later? I'd be interested to hear what everyone is up to and what i've missed.

Hope this brings some joy and nostalgia to great times.

F_36--

Hi there! It's a most pleasant surprise to hear from you. I am very glad to see you are pursuing becoming an air traffic controller. I remember well the time I helped you with your school project. It was very fun for me and you were a great student! I hope you are well. I have been retired for several years but I haven't lost my love of flying.

Take care my friend,

SkyBoat/David

P.S.: I have adopted a new flight name: Orca-7T.
