If we gave everybody in the World free software today, but we failed to teach them about the four freedoms, five years from now, would they still have it?

Problem with WED Layout. I finished my WED Layout and generated it with Airport Web Generator, and I replaced the old VILH.btg file but the scenery loading never finished loading!!

Is it the problem with the layout or generation problems?

Hi IM-RAM
No. The WED situation is different to the WS2.0 Terrasync scenery situation.

For the problem that concerns you. You CANNOT push to the gateway with any WED version different than the latest stable version

http://developer.x-plane.com/tools/worldeditor/

So basically, if you are working your layouts on WEDbing, then you also will need the lastest stable downloaded from the link above for the sole purpose of pushing to the gateway

Let us know when you've pushed :)

IM-RAN wrote:Quick Question on TerraGit. Is this how it works, you install GIT on your PC and clone the needed Terragit tiles to install in the corresponding scenery directory of FGData, and when you click update it kinda inserts the newest changes, right. If that is how it is (or even if I am wrong) as one tile has 3 branches, the users should download all the 3 branches right, then why don't we put the 3 together for user's convenience.

Just in case, the download containing the Terrain branch of tile e070n30 is about 1.3GB, as it is like downloading FG itself :o :o :o

TerraGIT is itself an scenery manager via git. Not scenery itself.
1. Yes. You need to install git to use terraGIT, thus the name.
https://git-scm.com/download/win
2. You need to use git to clone terragit

Code: Select all

git clone git@github.com:FGMEMBERS-TERRAGIT/terraGIT.git

this installs you the scenery manager. Its about 700 MB of content
3. Yes. Scenery itself is the largest asset of Flightgear when it comes to size. If you install the whole world via terraGIT you will be looking forward to use about 250GB of hardrive initially, and growing as the world develops.
terraGIT is a modular approach to scenery download. You don't need to download the whole world. You can download or install any tile of the world in a 10x10 degree tiling

This: http://ns334561.ip-5-196-65.eu/~fgscene ... 2.0.1.html
is the Flightgear tile map

example

Code: Select all

cd terraGIT
install/tile e000n50

The folder install contains multiple scripts to allow you to install with efficiency, different parts of the world,. The script collection is growing in flexibility all the time

Some tiles are as large as 2.5 GB (a few), others as small as a few MB (2 or 3). The average is about 500 MB size per tile.
One of these days I could make a histogram of tile size just for the heck of it.

4. Using zip files to obtain terraGIT contain is possible, but cumbersome and only for people experienced in FG Scenery management (as in they know how to put parts together)

Lol, I meant skyvector is supposed to be the best source of charts and info of the airports. But I found that VILH did not exist.

So in home terms there is a loss in SkyVector, which I called a hole!

oh!
There are airports that are small or new not yet charted.
I believe skyvector does not use "newest" charts. and it certainly does not guarantee aeronautical accuracy.
So no surprise here :D

OK IAHM-COL, time for me to get working. Can you explain how to get Terragear set up and running on Linux virtual machine. I got the links to virtual box and Linux 17.3 All you need to do is give me the links and guide to install and use TG on Linux virtual box. Can you help me on that :-):-)

I build from binaries.
http://wiki.flightgear.org/TerraGear
viewtopic.php?f=28&t=502

You need to have compiled/installed many dependencies, and mainly simgear, gdal2.0, and CGAL4.8 (the version matters)
you need to make sure to get terragear via git, on sourceforge, and specifically compile the scenery/ws2.0 branch

It is not a simple task
Good Luck! :S

I know there are windows binaries around. I don't use windows, so I dont know if they work or not.

OK here's the fun part. I am a total newbie to Linux, so what am I supposed to do with the compile_sh. thing. Where should I write that in and what will it give me? (^^)
