Develop the old SU-26 further?

Postby LesterBoffo » Sat Nov 14, 2015 12:24 am

SU- 26M from Enrique Laso Laon has this printed in it's README..

Copyright 2006 Enrique Laso Leon
Final releases will be released under GPL or LGPL but for the time being I
reserve the rights to release any modification on the model.
This is in order to get only one thread of development.
This will NEVER be a commercial product.

The plane has been undeveloped for over 9 year now? Has Enrique been active at the Forum at all?

I've played around with the FDM some but just to get it flying, as the new JSB sim changes broke it's loading in 3.4

Hi Lester
Yes I see that note.

He indicated that he would release GPL, but he did not :S
Then his last statement said:
this will NEVER be a commercial product
, which he can't restrict under GPL, so I can't assume it defaulted to GPL. Currently it is an aircraft clearly not GPLed, but whose license is currently unknown.

Ideally, it would be getting Enrique to declare it GPL. Moved it from NON-GPL to the general FGMEMBERS' collection.

Second. It loads for me fine in 3.7 (without JSBsim adaptations).

The current issue I see is in a nasal file, but it seems one easy to tackle

Code: Select all

Nasal runtime error: container index not scalar
  at fgdata/Nasal/view.nas, line 215
  called from: fgdata/Nasal/view.nas, line 738

I could also get it to take off, and somehow fly on 3.7
Only one Stereo file, now converted to Mono

My copy was from an older install of FG I notice there isn't a present repo for this in the 3.4 aircraft downloads, I'm thinking from the date it's from 2.8 or 2.10. And my copy had the deprecated bogey code

Code: Select all

<retractable>FIXED</retractable>
in the FDM.

Shame it's not further developed because it's a rather nice pane, other than the FDM is a mess.

The Nasal error IAHM-COL has added in his post is porbalby just a known view.nas issue. It happens when you write your view-numbers in the -set files with >_234_< between the tags (_= blank) and forget to mention type="int". Then it is interpreted as string and view.nas says, it has a string where it expects a number. So if it is that, it's easy to fix but then, it doesn't matter anyway because after that runtime-error, the views are still in the order in which they are defined in the -set file and are all working.

The deprecated bogey code can be just replaced with <retractable>0</retractable>, that's it. What are the other troubles with the FDM?
The other question is, which parts of the plane are actually non-GPL? We know there are some developers, not calling names here, who used free models and thie non-GPL licenses were either based on other parts they copied somewhere or just pure ownership issues as in "I OWN MY F******** PLANE, YOU CAN'T HAVE MY TOYS" usually accompanied by feet stomping. So a little search in the Internet could bring up rather interesting results.

Hi All.

In FGMEMBERS version
https://github.com/FGMEMBERS-NONGPL/Su-26M
the code is already

Code: Select all

 <retractable>0</retractable>

Three iterations.

Any version around has the same note by Enrico, declaring intentions to make it GPL, and in the same paragraph sayin' <No Commercial>. Thus, a direct contradiction. The source is left without a clear License.

I'll look the view thing with your hint

Respect to the FDM. I tried a few stunts. It flies under 3.7 with FGMEMBERS version. But really, it does like a brick.

I don't know why or how, but this
https://github.com/FGMEMBERS-NONGPL/Su- ... 4ef6e81ad7
Somehow fixed the nasal error mentioned above.

No error codes on this craft on my side.
It launches. It flies.

FDM can get some love thou. But it flies. and It can be done well.
Also, Does this airplane have ailerons?

Well since I doctored the wings lift and drag look-up tables, it's much better. And yes, it has quite authoritative ailerons.

It is one of the few planes in FG I can initiate the resemblance of a Lomchevak, it also does snap rolls and spins.

If anything I think Enrique was trying to model all of the lift and drag angles the wing would encounter, since tail-slides seem to be part of it's aerobatics routine.

But the numbers he used were out of scale/not sane.

Also the engine/propeller's look up tables are suspect too. This is a 621 cubic inch, supercharged 9 cylinder radial that puts out nominally 360 ps, stuffed into the smallest/lightest aerobatic airframe that can handle it.

Can my changes by included in the repo? I think I've done this plane some justice in it's aero coding.

Off course. !
You can try pushing yourself, or linking your version and I will push for you

IAHM-COL: You use 3.7. In the FGDATA for 3.7, the problem in view.nas is corrected so it doesn't lead to a Nasal error anymore. Everything is good.
