Why do I need that? JSBsim is integrated in FG with C++, IIRC.

What is the point of showing me that? (I used my ATC-Pie WinPython to run it)
To me, there is really no advantage. While something like C++ makes more sense, nasal is a scripting language which I find quite cool. It also allows alot of control over the sim, hence, complex subsystems can be recreated easily, and the language can be extended in any way.

Josh

6) Well, if you would like add a new format option, I'm all for it, but keep AC3D, as I prefer it for my (extremely) basic 3D modelling I do.

PS: What is a Fligth Simulator?

A fligth simulator is a program to simultae Fligth.

I want to comment first on this.
AC3. I am not sure I'm totally positive about it.

I think maybe Ply, instead?
Both are ASCII based formats which I like, but AC3D is propietary, vs, per example a couple of software exist that are either GPL or MIT licensed which are natively using the Ply format. And Blender can also handle it very well.

Well, I've always used AC3D... all the 3D guys I work with export to AC3D. It's a format that is easy to use for beginners, and horrible idiots like me who shouldn't be allowed near a 3D modelling program with a 10 foot pole can't figure out Blender, but can work AC3D alright. I'll eventually learn it when I feel better, but I don't think removing backwards compatibility is a good idea, you can kiss the hundreds of available planes goodbye... especially high quality ones...

Kind Regards,
Josh

PS: What exactly is the point of this all?

Another interesting alternative, could be Panda3D :) and their BAM format.

The point of this: destroying the already small part of FG that was left :D

IDC what people do/what happens to FG, but this will not make it more popular.

O, not to forget this will start world war 3, which isn't very good PR for new users either :D

I said, first post:

This post is a fishing expedition.
I wanted to throw out there the crazy idea of making a new GPL flight simulator, as a feasible alternative to FlightGear.

The point is to see if there would be developers that would like to team up.
So far I have a few people interested in thinking this way. But I'm making a call to see if more people would think that sailing this boat and building something new could be exciting.

READ : NEW.
You are thinking Backwards compatibility. I am not.

Well, Sailing a Boat is done in ONE team!!! TOGETHER, NOT BY HAVING TWO PARTIES...

The FG boat is already going down, and soon enough it will take this one with it (or this one just makes the FG boat sink faster).

@IAHM-COL
Maybe by the time this gets usable my current aircraft will be done. If this actually ends up existing and is better than FG, I'll consider moving over and maybe port over the Airbus and MD-11 series.

Time will tell whether this works or not, but I have my doubts. It's hard to complete with the likes of P3D and XPL. Keep in mind that Panda3D demo will require that level of 3D modelling... so you need to find someone that good to get similar effects I guess. Not sure I don't do 3D.

Kind Regards,
Josh

PS: Please don't drop Nasal...

Some rendering effects running on this panda have made my mouth drop quite low.
