Statistics says, we have lesser fatalities despite more flights. Which makes sense, routine jobs are a hard thing for humans. But we have no statistics exclusively about crisis situations. In how many situations has a computer actually taken the right actions? How often have computers confused insufficiently trained flight crews with deadly consequences.
See, we all think, we have here a new problem. Computers are so new ... blah! The truth is, we had similar problems every way along technological progress. We have a new toy, everyone loves it, everyone trusts it. Till things go really bad. People trusted in their technology - the Titanic sank. Not actually because of the technology but because humans trusted the technology mindlessly.
The only absolute new level of stupidity is, we can claim at least that, that we now have technology that can't be switched off by humans to take control over a crisis situation.

I'm interested to know how he regained control after the initial false readings - the video cut short of that part (if any) and I'm probably too lazy to find it out on search.

OK, a quick search shows that the flight crew switched FBW to alternate law (after encountering the FBW nose down TWICE within minutes), but this was before they could avoid any damage / injuries. From the looks of the interior damage, the injuries sustained would be quite serious indeed!

You know, the problem is, ultimately, the airline is at fault, for not maintaining their pitot tubes (an on going thing back then, which at the end led to the crash of the Air France A330).

There is no switch for that, so they must have stood up to pull some circuit breakers. According to many in the AirAsia case this is illegal. So i suppose the crew is in jail now. Or is it allowed for crews who are trained to actually fly the plane?

Ah, so maintenance on the ground can avoid every malfunction? Dream on. When a plane starts to act up, there must be a button to shut the christmas tree off and fly the plane. Airbus deliberately left out that button. Not only are their planes dangerous, but also the mentality they spread to the airlines.
