FWIW FlightGear has a fairly decent particle system. Just nobody does this for whatever reason.
I've been thinking about adding particles into the Viggen/whatever fighter plane I'm working on at the moment, for when it's doing mach 1 at 75 feet. All you need to do is see what terrain type you're over, and have particles that match that terrain type. So dust, water, whatever.

I never use addon scenery. I've never found the cost:improvement:disk space ratio acceptable.
only ORBX Global FTX, and ORBX Global Vector. And Trees.

I care mostly about in the air. Don't care about ground stuff as long as I have jetways.

As somone living in the cockpit, i never get to see dust. I think whether the plane flies plausible is more important to me.
Kind regards, Vincent
