I don't know, I'd think that getting items into Venezuela would be half of the battle.

In the US you can certainly put together a half decent desktop if you know your way around PC repair and assembly. Luckily my wife and I got into computers repair as a sideline from building PC's from parts ordered online, and from a very supportive local community college course/ program that recycled old computers.

My previous computer was an old Compaq laptop w/ AMD single core CPU with a basic Nividia 128 megs GPU that barely ran OpenGL2.0. I doubt it would have run FG vers. 2.4.

Exactly.
Maybe, it would arrive safe.
If it did, and no customs officer thought he might like it, there would be a giant tax.
Like, GIANT.
And then, police officers on the road home.
You'd spend more on bribes and tax than PC...

Besides, there is a natural protection of the Venezuelan Hardware

http://www.vit.gob.ve/

While the extreme right politicians work in the search for a "free trade" mechanism, that could have potentially serious damaging effects on local industry, the extreme left work in the limitations of "any trade", and specially those that enter in direct competition to governmentally funded production enterprises [FGADdon vs FGMEMBERS?]. Both "left" and "right" end up completing a circle where the goal is maximize trade "control"... so basically, you as the layman end up loosing the ability of having a choice.

That's that, lego.

On the important topic, your price tag of $USD 6K is quite steep. :) certainly ambitious.

Yep!
Maybe, if my long-lost-fictional great grand uncle dies and leaves me $100,000, I can fulfill it and my other dream: http://www.vier-im-pott.com/index.php/e ... up_id=2474
By the way, VIT school kid computers

As well as Kubuntu.

I didn't do the add up for SkyBoat's machine, but the one, I am currently working on costs here in the US short under $2500 (give or take for some parts with very volatile prices like memory). But then, this is already with 32 GB RAM (4x4 DDR3) and 16 TB hard disks (4x4 TB Western Digitals). However, I assume, bringing those parts into Venezuela will bting the same machine to what? $8,000 to 10,000?
