The Pirates of The West Indies, Mountain Hike
This Saturday 09/07, 18:00Z, we continue the treasure hunting tour, Pirates of the West Indies Section, departing Puerto Carreno, Colombia (SKPC) and traveling to Merida, Venezuela (SVMD) flying multi propellers capable of sustaining 250-270 KIAS and flying at least 21500 ft. The terrain near arrival is very high, and requires attention to avoid the major peaks, which include Pico Bolivar; one of the highest peaks of the world.
Arrival and landing in Merida also require proper planning, good maneuvering, and a vertiginous descent to the track sitting near 5000ft. Runway is relatively short, and will require pilots backtracking, due to lack of taxiways.
All in all, be ready for a challenging mountain hike!!!
See you all Saturday,

If we gave everybody in the World free software today, but we failed to teach them about the four freedoms, five years from now, would they still have it?

Here's a thought;
If we take a short break in Barinas at SVBI. Could those in slower planes elect to take the scenic route?
Like following the Rio Santo Domingo up the mountain valley to our final destination? I mean, It won't be as fraught with struggling in recip powered airplanes that are at the edge of their performance to reach 17K altitude, and it lines you up for a pretty nice approach to the airport at our final destination.
Cheers, Lester..

@LesterBoffo
hehe
The idea was tempting but to late to change flight plans
For me, dropping in Barinas and trying to climb fast enough makes it harder, not easier a route.
I'll be posting next route sometime during the week.

The treasure hunting Tour, Pirates of the West Indies
Hi Airmen,
The tour continues this Saturday 09/28 @ 18Z, departing Maiquetia, Simon Bolivar Intl. Airport, Venezuela (SVMI) and travel to Porlamar, Santiago Marino Airport, Isla Margarita, Venzuela (SVMG).
The route is a coastal track. We will fly monopropeller, and we will follow the Caribbean Venezelan Coastline until we reach Cumana, then head toward the Margerita Island and prepare for landing. The route is mainly VFR, at or around 3000 ft, and we will keep an airspeed below 100 KIAS (70-100) for the duration of the flight. Bring a plane capable of sustaining these conditions.
A few VORS are available in the route to assist the pilots in case that climatological conditions worsen. See skyvector link below,

The treasure hunting tour, Pirates of the West Indies:
Hi Airmen,
We will skip one week, and we will continue the tour meeting on 10/12/2024 @ 18:00 UTC.
Departing the last Arrival of Porlamar, Venezuela (SVMG) we will travel toward Tobago of Trinidad and Tobago, to A. N. R. Robinson International Airport (TTCP). We will maintain slow and low approach, filing the flight with monopropellers able to sustain slow speeds, at or around 70-100KIAS.
Our route, once again will be governed, weather allowing, by VFR rules; The route however will lead to the aircraft to have a few passes very near surrounding terrain, with mountains reaching about 3000 feet in the vicinity. We will aim to an elevation of 3500 throughout, but each pilot shall ensure the flight safety, either by climbing a few more feet, or carefully navigating accross natural valleys present on the topography.
See a guideline of the route on the Skyvector below:

The treasure hunting: Pirates of the West Indies
Hi Airmen
We continue the Island hopping this Saturday 10/19, departing our last arrival on Tobago TTCP at 18:00 Zulu. We will travel to the newest airport on Saint Vincent, TVSA, following VFR rules, heading first to Grenada, and then following the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Keys, northbound to our destination.
NOTE: TVSA is available in terraGIT. In case you are using a different scenery, like TerraSync, alternatively, approach TVSV; which is the previous airport in Saint Vincent, and it was located a few miles west.
We will fly monopropellers at around 4500 ft, and should maintain around 100 KIAS during the route.
The Skyvector below is a rough indication of the visual route, for aid; or we can use it in case that weather does not permit.
