You couldn't average the perimeter to more closely match the topography? The cuts around the mountain crest are far too deep. The road should snake along the ridge crest.

IIRC, you have to use --max-slope=0.1 or so in genapts

the higher the most curve allowed? I used 0.8 on that run.

--max-slope is clamp somehow.
I tried ranging values from 0.0001 to 10000, and there is a point where the slope fit does not follow anymore.
I read the code. Can't understand a word of it

I have a couple old, dated Pythons for Blender that were supposed to import-export .bgt.gz for editing. They sort of worked, after a fashion..
