A review of the games

Concluded the Sixth Round, and the FACCT Tournament, 2017

the Blitz tournament is championed by Omega. Congratulations Omega (ujeqaf).

After having scored a total of 6 points of 6 possible in rounds 3, 4 and 5 of the Blitz tournament, Omega secured the first position of the Blitz tournament a round in advance. Which came in handy for him; he failed to show up for the last round on the Blitz tournament since he thought the time was still on daylight saving time : ( and as a consequence, although he had shown one hour later at 18UTC, he forfeited both games on the sixth round. Since the result of these games could not had changed the ranked outcome of the tournament, the games were assigned to each corresponding omega oponnent.

At scheduled time, 1740UTC, IAHM-COL got the point to JWocky, concluding a total sheet against this opponent in Blitz games with 6 victories of 6 games (game below), but intriguingly JWocky had drawn at 3 games win each with Omega, the title holder in the Blitz tournament.

The Blitz tournament ranks ended 1. Omega (ujeqaf), 2. IAHM-COL, and 3. JWock
y.

The Standard tournament is championed by IAHM-COL.

As previously indicated, IAHM-COL took the point by absence of his opponent, SHM, who forfeited all games in the tournament 3 days before tournament began, giving 2 points to each remaining containder of the Standard Tournaments. On the other game of the series, Keith took the point to JWocky, which caused IAHM-COL to become champion of the Tournament. IAHM-COL witnessed the game Live, and at the end confessed he was continuously nervous during the whole game because Keith spared multiple times the opportunity of leading the game with an early checkmate.

To be noted, JWocky again draw with the title holder, IAHMCOL, with 1 point each, and also draw to Keith with 1 point each, on direct confrontations.

The Standard tournament ranks ended 1. IAHM-COL, 2. JWocky, 3. Keith, and 4. SHM

The two games played today are linked below, with comments:

14. Qg4! Bd6?? # The Black movement in Bishop occurs almost instantly after Queen locates itself in the very menacing g4 position, challenging immediate mate in 2. Nonetheless, White misses mate and follows
15. f4?? # giving an opportunity to Black to react (15.Qe7 16 Bxe7 Bxe7), nonetheless Black ignores the immediate mate risk
15... Qc5?? 16. Qxc8+ #endgame

Code: Select all

By looking at the annotations in the FICS database, one notice how White missed mate in 12 opportunities, not surprisingly IAHM-COL was feeling a bit distressed watching the game live, and knowing that Keith victory would appoint him the tournament's first place! :O

IAHM-COL specific comments, in the github FACCT games database, including:

14. Rae1?? # Misses mate 14. Qxf7#
27... Qd6?? # Queen exchanges was possible with better outcome for Black: (27...Qxe8 28. Rxe8)
28. Bxa8?? # Misses mate 28. Qb5#
34. Re5+!! # decisive move, JWocky comments: "I think it is mate." IAHM-COL replies. "Not mate, but a very compromising situation for you." JWocky says, "well I can move one more time," IAHM-COL replies, "unfortunately I cannot say more at this point." In fact any movement by JWocky leads to a mate situation if not foul play by white, and the situation was already resignable, as JWocky correctly evaluated. Yet mate was obtained in one additional move.

Best,
