legoboyvdlp wrote:I do hope you don't think that I accused you of lying, because your post about glideslopes was not clear at all. The turn is sufficiently large coming with managing the vertical, horizontal (ie speed), and lateral sides to need good judgement, while 15 is fairly easy. It seemed from your post that you were referring to 15 which has hardly any turn at all, and the g/s reffering to the LDA which would lead you to either runway .

I said in that post nothing about rw 15 but i said: "I just did this nicely". What do you think "this" means except doing what is depicted on the chart you presented? And what a little turn is, is relative. To me a 90 degree turn at that alt is a breeze too. To you a 10 degree turn may be huge. Sorry, but saying i did something else than depicted on the approach plate is plain accusing of lying without any evidence, just making assumptions, like they have a habit of on that other forum.

legoboyvdlp wrote:The approach involves a higher complexity, especially in the final stage. You have a river to follow, you have to manage vertical prodile and speed, a turn to plan and execute, and a flare.

Which is the complex part of following something like a river? Vertical profile and speed are standard parts of a mental g/s. And a *little* turn in the end is not messing that up for me, neither do i forget to flare. I land nice and soft in the touchdown zone, thank you.

Btw, i do this stuff all the time, when i come in at an angle and am too lazy to fly all the way to 10 mi straight in front of the rw. A nice approach in this respect is Genoa rw 11, where you have to do the g/s flying north along the mountains. You should practice that one a bit more often, then this "challenge" is a breeze.

Kind regards, Vincent

Vincent:
I re-read my comment, and I do notice that I expressed myself abruptly in response to your entry.
I understand your point of how the other Forum sometimes provides poor examples of behavior, but I will try to be clearer next time, and clarify if I am making any assumption beforehand.
I keep a presence on the official forum, though, because I have the firm belief that some of us there can help create a bridge that may keep the community from splitting even further.
I sincerely apologize for my rudeness,
Lego

PS: I will do my best to try and follow your flying advice... but don't expect too much!

Of course the apology is accepted. An apology to me was not really necessary, i just wanted you to acknowledge that you understand what you did (other forum behaviour), so you may prevent yourself doing it on this forum in the future (i do not look back on issues from the past, unless it is to learn for the future). Anyway, the result is the same, so i am happy. I hope you are too.

Kind regards, Vincent

KL-666 wrote:I just did this nicely. Sorry to say, but a small turn on the end of g/s is not really a challenge. So i will not spend time filming it. As a compensation i will give you a 747-8i on rw 8 at lowi, with the turnaround procedure from approach 26

Hi Vincent.
Challenge Accepted

(well.... Kinda!)

Anyhow, This is it.

I decided to test Josh's A340-600VIP on an approach to LOWI.

I departed Munich RWY 26, via BIBAG1W, to Munich VOR.

METAR

Code: Select all

EDDM 111450Z 23004KT 170V290 9999 FEW012 FEW026CB SCT060 BKN100 17/13 Q1011 TEMPO SHRA

After Munich, I went to Rattenberg (RTT) via Tulsi, and from Rattenberg I followed the RWY 08 VFR approach (tried to) as charted.

METAR

Code: Select all

LOWI 111420Z 09005KT 030V140 9999 FEW020 SCT045 BKN060 18/12 Q1011 TEMPO 27010KT SHRA

It is amazingly complicated. I did the pattern at 3700 a total of three times before I could get the runway correctly alligned, and in sight. Then I get an F14 taking off tailwind!! :D

Anyhow, since I was coming down more or less OK, I dared to glare ... and the touch down was not that terribly bad considering all conditions, and the difficulty of the approach. (the smoky tires care to disagree!)

why do you always fly from a following helicopter? This reminds me the NASA video they trashed a 727...

Nice landing. Well done!

OK
This is a second attempt, now practicing the Aircrane.

I firstly went to Quantico (where the National Guard is)

http://mpserver15.flightgear.org/module ... ID=6666908

And then I returned to KDCA

METAR

Code: Select all

KDCA 111852Z 23015KT 10SM FEW055 BKN250 34/20 A2989 RMK AO2 SLP122 T03390200

All flights were performed under VFR, at 1500ft; for approach, I followed the Potomac River to SETOC, and then returned via VISUAL RIVER 19 as charted.
After landing on the Threshold, I hover to terminal, and closed flightplan
