[s]Communications will be via FGcom, delta server, air2air frequency 122.75, and Teamspeak. Server and channel to be announced.[/s]

Communication

Voice communication makes our flights more enjoyable. We could get engage in interesting aviation chat and besides get the radio used to coordinate flying details and keep every pilot on "the radar". For the trip to Indiana, we will be using 2 forms of communications;

1. FGCom

Code: Select all

Server: delta384.server4you.de
frequency: 122.75 (air2air)
##Get FGcom installing instructions at http://wiki.flightgear.org/FGCom#Installing_FGCom
##Remember to modify the FGRun or the command line to allow FG to communicate with FGCom

2. Teamspeak

Code: Select all

Server: ip.freeteamspeak3.com
Channel: 21 (AirH5)
Password: Will be provided via text or fgcom during the game to joining pilots
##Get teamspeak client at http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads

Looking forward to see you at KCYS!

Update

Thanks to LesBof for his work on the DC-9 and the Fokker 100

USA TOUR LEG 7th FINISHED

USA tour completed its 7th trip, and measured already 5000+ nm~ http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=KPHL-KOKC-KIAH-KHOU-KCAE-KFAR-KSLC-KCYS-KIND&MS=wls&DU=nm

Image

Tracking Page for IAHMCOL: http://mpserver15.flightgear.org/modules/fgtracker/?FUNCT=FLIGHT&FLIGHTID=4232201

And those many miles are not the main reason to be happy about it. This time we have got outstanding participation. 5 Pilots in competing aircrafts cruised the midwest toward east from KCYS, and landed in a nicely modeled Indianapolis International by an hour short of sunset. Competition was great and we had lots of fun controlling those airliners. Some FGFS systems crashed, unfortunately for the pilots, but that's a risk we all possess :(

We also got more pilots arriving from other cities such as cincinatti. Weather shown overcast for half way the trip and fully clear skies for the last half. Amazing visibility over Saint Louis, MO, and Indianapolis, IN.

So how is the competition going on?
Again, all pilots in competing aircrafts obtained points for the trip. Possible scores are 50 pts for take off, 50 pts per hour on the cruise (provided flight plan), and 100 points per landing. Performance is judged for the points. Particularly, landing points require "proper landing", that is, that it makes sense that pilots and passengers survived the land :/ (not me).

The following table summarizes scores on this leg, the cumulative results and the current ranking

USA Tour is a multiplay game on flightgear that aims to the largest city of every state and special territory in USA, for a total of 57 trips, all of which are of different travel distance. Competitors will be indicated the plane to be used at a given leg, but non competing players are always welcome to come by and accompany the game in any plane they choose. Non competing players may consider the type of plane used by competitors, so they could use a similar specifications type of plane.
http://www.flightgear.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=17810

Currently 5 flights have been completed as outlined in this image (KMVC was a fueling stop!)
Image
And next trip aims to the state of Wyoming, whose most populated city is Cheyenne, located on close south easternmost tip. Traveling from Salt Lake city will require a fast climbing to clear the Rocky mountains at the east of the city, and then fly close to the Wasatch range and then to the high planes. We will probably get close to the city of Rawlings, WY, where omega had to make a fueling stop past trip, and from there slightly head southeast to approach KCYS. We will be communicating via FGcom with all players that join and trying to do formations on the air.
Hope to see lots of flying enthusiast coming by!
For competitors, you could complete the short form to register at

PLAN

Less than one week for the sixth trip of USA tour. and now here is the plan:

Omega will be leader, and we will try to do a formation using Skymaster together with any other joining participant. The more the merrier. I will be glad to see players with similar configuration planes or the same plane joining. Remember, bring Skymaster to compete (add points) or anything else if just joining.

The initial plan (VOR2VOR) is as follow, but expect changes depending on our group leader's decisions.

Code: Select all

ID      FREQ   TRK   DIST   Name/Remarks
KSLC               SALT LAKE CITY INTL
FBR     108.6     241       12    FORT BRIDGER
OCS     116.0     254      15  ROCK SPRINGS
CKW     115.0     257      50 CHEROKEE
MBW     111.6    262      38   MEDICINE BOW

PARKING POSITIONS

There will not be ATC service planned for the airports that we will be flying from/to on this leg.
Still, I am providing groundnets elaborated in order to be able to start in different locations, instead of runways on these airports

To install, it is required to download and copy the groundnets into $ROOT/Scenery and/or $TERRASYNC/Airports folders as indicated below:

Code: Select all

copy the files in (i.e):
$FGROOT/Scenery/Airports/K/S/L/KSLC.groundnet.xml  AND
$TERRASYNC/Airports/K/S/L/KSLC.groundnet.xml

USA TOUR SIXTH LEG FINISHED

And it's getting better

  • KSLC->KCYS provided complex terrain with high altitude on some east Salt-lake Rockies and the high planes of Wyoming
  • The weather had been harsher this time. For the first time in USA tour we departed under precipitation; we had a snow-storm on SLC.
  • We were in company of 3 outstanding pilots -Star (dhc-2), LesBof (Percival Petrel) , and M-J4MC (Cessna 337) - and ... me :roll: (Cessna 337)
  • Nonetheless I am improving my skills better and the landing at KCYS was bouncy but ok... and was performed with relatively strongly gusting winds.
  • Trip was performed VOR2VOR in most realistic conditions possible; that is no "map/mpmap", and only navigating radials and frequencies, guided during departure by me (IAHMCOL) and approach by Star (Omega)
  • De havillan's fuel tank was ridiculously small, and Omega had to stop at barely 100 nm, at Rock Springs KRKS to refuel and barely made it to Cheyenne, thanking he was on descending and could do it on lower power. Was the DH's, or was the mixture leaning control? I don't quite know. DH's specs suggested a 400 nm range, with would have been enough to reach KCYS (380) or at least reaching comfortably Rawlings (KRWL). A similar question remain open for me with respect to the A6M zero, specified range +1000nm, and when completing USA tour leg 2 both LesBof and I had to refuel at 400 nm. Is it a code error in these planes?

Screenshots
Thanks to Omega for his fabulous album. I Would love to see some shots by LesBof and M-J4MC

Some refueling going on at Rock Springs

What has been accomplished so far

4362 nm as follows

    1. KPHL->KOKC, Citation X
    2. KOKC->KIAH->KHOU, Piper Seneca II
    3. KHOU->KCAE; A6M Zero
    4. KCAE->KFAR; CRJ700
    5. KFAR->KSLC; Fokker 50 (official) and the company of Vicker Nene Vicking, and B1900D
    6. KSLC->KCYS; Cessna 337 (Official) and the company of Percival Petrel, and DHC-2

Image

What about the points?

On this leg, IAHMCOL and M-J4MC had flown the competing official plane, and scores are as follow

IAHMCOL; Departure 50/100 points (first attempt failed), Cruising 3 h 25 min 170 pts (50 pts/hr), landing 50/100 (some risky landing) = 270
M-J4MC: Departure 0/100 points (he joined at KRKS instead), Crusing 2h30min 125 pts (50 pts/hr), landing 90/100 (really nicely performed) = 215

Cumulative Score Chart

Code: Select all

    ***************************************************************
    SCORES
    Callsign(RANK)  | Fly | ATC  |   Cumul |   TOTAL
    IAHMCOL (1) |  270  |  0       |    1187  |  1457
    LesBof     (2)  |  0     |  0       |    550   |   550
    M-4JMC   (3)  |  215 |  0        |   0        |  215
    Star (4)          |  0     |  0       |    190    |  190
    ***************************************************************

What's next?

Expect the next USA Tour leg invitation in the forum soon !!

I am considering changing one rule, specially based on the previous two legs experience when great pilots companied in great non-official planes and got "penalized" with no points. The change will consist in allowing a certain type of plane competing (to remain fair), ie, bi-propellers, monopropellers, helicopters, small Jets, Large Jets, ultrasonic, military, historic and similar theme based competition. If someone has a suggestion about this rule change, I am open to hear it.
