Smoke indication is the term for the indication on the cockpit display. You can be quite sure that avherald uses the term correctly. If it is "someone smelled smoke", they write that down, and certainly not smoke indication.
Still i do not get how going into wild speculation to fill gaps can help me in any way to correct answers. I can perfectly well live with gaps, until they are filled (e.g. by a final report). In the mean time i can draw limited conclusions from the facts currently available.
