Fun with old software

Postby Octal450 » Tue Oct 11, 2016 4:19 am

Up and running in Windows 98 and Netscape Navigator 9.0.0.6. Oh the memories of the my first PC!

Yeah, it looks odd, and some icons are missing, but it works good enough to post this!!!

Gonna try more old ones out later. I like messing with old software.

Haha. Old Windows has the interesting problem of too much vulnerability

If we gave everybody in the World free software today, but we failed to teach them about the four freedoms, five years from now, would they still have it?

Yeah, but it's all good fun.
If careful, then it is fine.

Honestly, I don't think so.
You can't bee "careful"
It's a problem of your software vulnerabilities, not of what you do or don't

Careful there is probably:
1. dont install anything
2. dont insert external media (usb/floppys/etc)
3. dont connect the internet.

Which means, by all practical means
Do nothing except play "mines"

IAHM-COL
Please be careful. To get a virus you have to be dumb. I have never gotten one, and I download a lot of stuff.

Israel's reaction : I don't give a damn about virus! Linux ftw.

I used Win 98SE 'til about 2004, and had Mozilla and some defunct freeware antivirus and never had any issues with malware. We of course didn't have DSL, just Dial-up. My sims all worked, my 3D programs all made good models, even Blender with old Python import-export .py's functioned.

Win98SE was not as malware prone as you remember..

Yup.
I really enjoy Windows 98, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. I use Windows Vista as my main OS. My OS is about 6 years older than the oldest part of my PC, and I like it that way. Wiruses? Never!

Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4 with Firefox 10.0.3 Extended Service Release. Most sites are working well.
