FG best developed airliner

Postby camileck » Mon Aug 21, 2017 4:14 pm

Hello! Question out of curiosity. I am quite new to FG world so it is kind of newbie question. I would like to get to know better Airliners world and would like to start with the best one ;) So, what is the best developed airliner in your opinion, considering "standard" FG categories (FDM, Systems, Cockpit, Model)? It does not matter either it comes from official FGAddon or some 3rd party hangar.

Regards!

I recommend the MD-11 by itouchpods. An extremely realistic aircraft with an accurate flight deck and FDM. He is also currently working on the A320 family and I can wager that it will be just as good, if not better than the MD-11.

Hello Camileck,

I would not know a plane that has all categories best. So i suppose you should prioritize some of them more and others less. My personal priorities are fdm and a functional cockpit.

If you want the most realistic fdm i have found in flightgear, then take this 737. The cockpit is good too, but on systems and model it is not the greatest.

There is also another development of the 737. You will have to compromise just slightly on the fdm. It is almost as good. But you win on the systems and model.

Maybe there are also aircraft that have extreme good systems and model. But i do not use them because i prioritize fdm. Others can better advertise these planes than me.

Ow, and i see you registered recently. Welcome on board.

Kind regards, Vincent

Thank you so much for your feedback! So many aircrafts to take a look at! :)

@V12 Do you mean B777 from official hangar or from some independent project?

EDIT: Thank you for your warm welcome!

Hi It0uchpods,

Is not for study level the flight model of utmost importance? If so, then this statement is wrong:

+1 @tikibar
I think your statement summarizes the airliner situation in FlightGear perfectly. Well said!

Tikibar mentions the 707 as study level. But the 707 has a very underdeveloped flight model, to say it mildly. Maybe he typo'd a 0 where should be a 3.

Kind regards, Vincent

Just to mention, on FG wiki 707 has 4 out of 5 stars in FDM category, but of course I trust your, so to say, FDM sense :) The question is why it got such a good FDM grade? What are the criteria then?

ratings in FG are a very subjective matter. that's all there is to say.

It is a bit worse than that. Ratings are done by the developer himself. The idea is to give an indication of the state of things.

Unfortunately there are people who grossly overestimate their work. One of them is Marc Kraus, who made nice systems, model and cockpit, but has no idea how a plane moves through the air. The plane behaves in many aspects counter natural. To accentuate his lack of self knowledge, he put 4 stars for the fdm. His only explanation for those stars is that he put a lot of time in the plane. That of course says nothing about the resulting quality of the fdm.

Kind regards, Vincent
