First observations from previus gen:

Swallowfencesharkwhatever Wingtip
"Nose up" pose, longer nose gear
New wing
Looks like larger windows. Not sure.
Longer tail tip
787-like engine pods, and LEAP engine

Nose looks pointier, and the top of the tail looks shorter.

Comparisons to -800. Windows look to be same sized

Yes, nose is pointier, but tail is the same.

The APU area is 787-style long.
Also, that MAX has WIFI, while the -800 doesn't (round antenna on top)
Cockpit windows look to be slightly smaller lengthwise.
Finally, the 737MAX looks beautiful, and I cannot wait to fly on it (or even fly IT someday ;) )

I think the nose and cockpit windshields (minus brow windows, which are optional since the classics) are exactly the same- it's just the camera angle making them look slightly different. Tailfin seems the same too.

Personally, the changes don't look to be much. Let's see what Boeing has to say about that, but it seems to me like the changes are 'hackjobs' to put the larger LEAP engine onto it, because the original was designed too low to put larger engines. I'm glad they eliminated the bulge below the nose in the early concepts! :

OK that cockpit - I know they want to retain familiarity but firstly that gray has got to go. And some of the switches and knobs are probably something out of the 1950s!! Some along the lines of a 777 would be nice to have...

I like that cockpit.
It is nothing like an Airbus, but since the 737 is a classic plane.... to me it would be spoiling it to make a 787 or 777 style cockpit.
Just my opinion.

The problem is, the main instruments were already 787 -style, the overhead console isn't. And the color. Maybe it's due to camera flash, but I recall going into a 737-400 cockpit once and the color is just too blue-gray to be inviting. Safe to say they didnt change that one bit. It's far too industrial feeling when even some of today's industrial equipment are very comfortable to be in (e.g. 777).


Having said that, the 737 is one of my favorites and first experiences - sat in a -200 advanced many times, those were extremely loud and exciting!

New features:

New 69.4 inches (176 cm) CFM LEAP-1B fan.
New CFM LEAP-1B custom core with 11-12% reduction in fuel burn and 7% reduction in operating cost.
New engine nacelle and pylon will cause engines to project further forward than CFM56-7BE on 737NG.
Updated EEC software, fuel and pneumatic systems.
Nose gear extension of 15-20cm to give more engine ground clearance.
Minor changes to nose wheel well to accommodate longer nose gear strut.
Fly-by-wire spoiler system - to improve production flow, reduce weight and improve stopping distances.
Hydraulic system redundancy to resemble 757.
Reshaped tailcone to reduce drag giving a 1% reduction in fuel burn.
Advanced technology winglets which feature upward and downward-directed composite airfoils
Widespread structural strengthening.
Flightdeck, fuselage lengths and door configurations all frozen from 737NG.
Four 15.1 inch LCD cockpit display screens in landscape orientation.
Possible eco-improvements currently under consideration include: Mini-split flap, Variable area fan nozzle, adaptive trailing edges, flight-trajectory optimisation and regenerative fuel cells.
New electronic bleed air system, allowing for increased optimization of the cabin pressurization and ice protection systems, giving in better fuel burn
