Alright. Thank you for the explanation.

As for OSM, that's how I did most of my airports, except for the UK ones and others, where I used charts. It doesn't show taxiway markings or anything.
I feel like kicking Google from here to the moon.

@IAHM-COL - did you use the Google map only to align the images downloaded from USGS Explorer or did you trace the layout over them? (The first case, in my opinion, would be fine, as you would be using USGS data for tracing, which is in the public domain and, thus, GPL-compatible).

In any case, reading the OSM wiki, I have also discovered that DigitalGlobe (one of the suppliers for Google satellite imagery) has also licensed their data for use in OSM. I suppose we could trace the airport layout in OpenStreetMaps and use the resulting data in WED: if done properly, little to no aerial photos will be required for modelling (see LIPX in OSM for an example - it's not my own work, but I've found it sufficiently detailed).

As I told you, OSM is not really suitable, as it doesn't have taxiway centerlines and all that other stuff, though it does have quite a bit of detail, and was helpful with some of my airports.
I hate Google.

Why not just ask?!

Hi All, with the help of D-Laser, we reconstructed the terrain for the Kansai Airport, featuring the new Airport layout 850 apt.dat.

To early testers, the custom scenery can be found now in the FGMEMBERS repository

If we gave everybody in the World free software today, but we failed to teach them about the four freedoms, five years from now, would they still have it?

Right, what needs done in Blender, then? Any simple, square buildings?

(Ps.... if you use 2.76, where on earth do I find the Modifiers menu to use sub surf?)
It's fairly easy -- make things out of simple shapes :)

Maybe I could model the bridge to the airport from the mainland...
