And please don't be using the metrics of a South American strongman's socialist politics to measure what you think Bernie will end up doing. He's one of the few who actually want to do the will of his constituents, and that is remarkably refreshing considering the circus clown-car parade we've had for election hopefuls for the past 36 years.

Agree 100%. Unfortunately a lot of the US public won't care one bit about any differences between Social Democracy and Socialism. To them those two are the same as Communism. Cuba, Germany, Venezuela, China, the USSR.... big difference. They don't care.

As for Trump and Oliver's bit; again a lot of Trump's supporters won't care, if they even bother watching it.

I don't quite know. I'd have a choice of Cruz, Paul, or Rubio, who aren't likely to get the job.

Clinton and Trump... well, the future looks bleak.

I'd probably vote Republican, but likely whatever fits my viewpoint more than anything else.

Interesting weighting of issues there lego. Quite reactionary, in my opinion.

In my country left oriented people mostly switch between left and more left parties. Right oriented people switch mostly between right and more right parties. But with the presidential elections in the US, people hop over to the opposite camp as if they have no ties with the ideology of the side they were on originally. This behaviour gives me the impression that many Americans are not very interested in politics, and they do not care what ideology they vote for. Well, that is what it looks like from my perspective. Probably there is a better explanation for such behaviour.

Kind regards, Vincent

I actually don't think you have the right impression of US voters. From what I can tell they don't stray too far from their ideological convictions. What possibly looks odd to outsiders is the fact that US political discourse is very often incredibly shallow, simplistic and stupid. So you can see tons of people proclaim that they stand by a particular candidate, but that's just because of the dumb debate and their shallow understanding of it. The candidate belongs to either left or right, and that's all they need to know. Their actual opinions may be completely different, but that doesn't matter. Substance doesn't matter. Appearance does.

I wouldn't call it entirely accurate. It says I side with Trump on immigration.

Now, personally, Trump is mad in the head in that matter. Great Wall of America? Ban all Muslims? Okaaaaay.

I do agree we need more control. More background checks. Stricter airport security (no more TSA, which is a joke. I'm a terrorist because of my baking soda. And someone else got through without id, boarding pass, etc.

But no, Trump. Seriously.

I also think welfare should under no circumstances be given too much. In Ireland, we have the NHS which is simply rubbish. My grandmother got sent home with pancreatitis-gallbladeritis because she was feeling a little better. And admitted hours later for emergency surgery. Which she was on a waiting list of months for. (And of course, she became an emergency waiting for surgery). Giving everyone free healthcare, free houses, unemployment benefits DOES NOT WORK. And that was a pun. A faimly can live without working on unemployment benefits in Northern Ireland.6
