If we gave everybody in the World free software today, but we failed to teach them about the four freedoms, five years from now, would they still have it?

OCT 10th is a no go for me.
OCT 17th, as currently planned, is doable.

For the record, I've taken the LSGG route manager file.
IAHM-COL, have you taken a look at the charts yet? I downloaded them from VATSIM Switzerland. The ones on Eurocontrol were very old.

@Simbambin

Yes. I downloaded and will be using the Swizz VAC charts on my services on LSGG

Thanks for doing LSGG Route Manager files. That's awesome. Did you push them to the repo already?
I did the LSGG groundnet and pushed it a few days ago

Yeah, just wanted to make sure we're on the same page.
It's not finished yet and I don't have git, so I'll upload it somewhere when ready.

SAMEDAN INFORMATION
Welcome to the Festival II 2015!

This year, on the 7th of November, Samedan will be controlled by yours truly.
While I do NOT posses a mic, traffic is mainly Cessnas or such planes, (although I will not prohibit A380s, if you MUST try it), and as such, will be easy to control.

If desired, pilots may reply via voice.

So.
Samedan Information?
What is that?!
Basically, we provide weather and traffic, as well as controlling the ground.
We do NOT provide separation, or terrain warnings -- it is up to the pilot to keep away from anything solid. Whether the ground, some clouds, or another plane.
Sure, we'll tell you about the Cessna on short final, but its up to you to takeoff or hold short.

As such:

Code: Select all

SAM-INF: Golf Yankee Charlie, wind 080@4, traffic is Cessna at half mile final, takeoff at your discretion
F-BGYC: Golf Yankee Charlie (note callsign only, not "winds copied" or "cleared for takeoff")

Quoting from a EuroControl Manual,
The AFIS unit is not an air traffic control unit. Except for cases when relaying clearance from air traffic control (ATC), AFIS Officers (AFISO) shall only pass information and warnings to pilots. Pilots are therefore wholly responsible for maintaining proper spacing in conformity with the rules of the air.

Here is an example initial call from a Citation X at 17000, inbound.

Code: Select all

Samedan Information, Citation X Golf Bravo Charlie Delta Echo (G-BCDE) level FL170, 16 miles north, inbound requesting radio check and winds.

And a traffic report by the AFISO:

Code: Select all

Charlie Delta Echo, traffic Boeing 737 to 9 o clock, descending 10000 through 16000 heading southeast at about eight miles

And an advice before taxi

Code: Select all

Airbus 424 Charlie, wind 80 @ 4, runway 36, altimiter 1018, time 1018 zulu.

If a Center controller is online, then they will provide me with you, the pilot's clearance for me to relay. I will then readback and relay to the pilot.
Then you contact shortly after takeoff (maybe at FL180?)

So thats the basics....
Hope yall enjoy it!

@Omega, I would really love it if you could use your expertise as a Vatsim controller and excellent ATC to give me some pointers?
And perhaps you would like to move on over to Switzerland OR Austria for the weekend, instead of the Netherlands? :)

Samedan Information only provides coverage up to the FIZ (Flight Info Zone) boundary as depicted on the VAC. And from GND to 10,000 ft. Swiss Information provides information service to VFR aircraft for the whole Swiss FIR, excluding all controlled areas up to and including FL195 (Above FL195 is class C).
The real life Samedan facility does not have any radar equipment (radar wouldn't even be possible because of its location). Therefore, the controllers are unable to provide traffic information that includes clock positions, accurate distances and altitudes.

Examples:

Code: Select all

Traffic is a slow moving Cessna on final

Code: Select all

Traffic ahead is a Boeing 737 on the left downwind

Additionally, all departures/arrivals must be maintaining VFR conditions until climbing into radar controlled airspace.
All aircraft are routed via reporting points W, E and S. And arrivals must contact no less than 5 NM prior to the FIZ boundary.

Departure example:

Code: Select all

Takeoff at your discretion, report Whiskey

(Over Whiskey)

Code: Select all

Frequency change approved

Arrival example:

Code: Select all

Samedan Information, HB-ABC approaching Echo at 6600 ft, type Piper Seneca, information Lima

Code: Select all

HB-ABC, join left downwind runway 03

As an RTF standard, altimeter = "QNH" and when abbreviating identifications, it's always first character followed by last two.
On initial contact:

Code: Select all

Pilot: Samedan Info, HB-ABC, blah blah

Code: Select all

ATC: HB-ABC, blah blah

Then on the next call, the callsign can be abbreviated (abbreviations are initiated by ATC, not by pilot (or at least per UK CAP413, not 100% sure about standard ICAO, or Switzerland in this case)).

Code: Select all

ATC: H-BC, blah blah

Code: Select all

Pilot: blah blah, H-BC
